Jim Mollison completed the first solo east to west flight of the North Atlantic, flying a de Havilland DH80A Puss Moth (G-ABXY).
Mollison flew from The Velvet Strand Beach Portmarnock Dublin to Pennfield Ridge in New Brunswick in 31 hours 20 minutes
G-ABXY 'The Hearts Content" was Jim Mollinson's special long-range Puss Moth.
Built with extended cabin windows allowing the pilot to sit behind a huge 160 gal fuel tank in place of the front seat, giving the aeroplane a range of 3,600 miles.
G-ABXY made The first solo east-west crossing of the Atlantic on 18th August 1932.
Mollinson then went on to pilot "Hearts Content" on the greatest of all Puss Moth achievements with the first solo crossing of the S Atlantic on 6th Feb 1933,
flying from Lympne in England direct to Natal in Brazil.
